Fundraising will make you feel disingenuous if you put money first in your intention and mindset. If you prioritize building a relationship and building a community, the money will come. 

Shift your perspective on how you measure engagement. Money is an important currency, but there is a currency that is so much more important and has the potential to be more impactful and that is your relationship equity. Use your marketing not just to push out messages but to create a community. 

Emotions and experience create a memory. When you host an event for your people, let it be that your focus is on creating meaningful experiences and fostering community growth. When people are able to experience an event on a deeper level, it tends to really stick to them. 

Scarcity can’t exist without abundance and vice versa, we can’t have joy without pain, and we can’t have peace without conflict. There’s value in both scarcity and abundance, pain and joy, peace and conflict. Use the concept of the magic triangle. Recognize that it is neither this or that, but it’s all the things. 

  • We have this kindness army behind us who's just waiting to be activated. They just need to know what we need.

  • It’s never about the event, the event is a vessel for the story and for the connection, but it's about what is the experience going to be like. How do we see those people? And how does that translate after the event so that the ripple keeps going, going, going?

  • What is the value of your currency right now? Is it in your KPIs - which let's not negate - we need that money but we're also saying that there's another currency there in your relationship equity and the way that you can look at engagement signals is really interesting.”
